mamamelinda's Ratings:
Pros: I adopted a sibling group with three girls from Kazakhstan. It was so easy and the support I received in country was fantastic. The paperwork was easy. The agency contacted me regulary while I was in country and ensured that I returned home in 42 days. I had additional time with the girls during the bonding period and we had many outings. I stayed in a nice apartment and felt very secure. I traveled alone and my in country coordinator checked in with me regularly and I had a translator available by phone any time I had questions.

Cons: I didn't have any problems.

Reviews: I loved my social worker both pre and post placement. I even had the post placement interviews in a park where the girls could really participate with the social worker in a non stressful meeting. I can't say enough good things about the coordinator in kazakhstan, she really made the process seem smooth. The US agency (Across the World Adoptions) staff made the process easy before I left. There were no unexpected charges or fees during the adoption and in country stay. The hardest thing about international adoption was the process. It changes during the adoption and you have to roll with the punches. Good Luck with your journey......

Adoption Details:

Child's Age: 8y 0m
Start Date: Feb 2004
Status: Homestudy and documentation
Completion Date: Dec 2006
Time Until Placement: 34 months
Type: Open, International
Special Needs: No
Child from Russian Federation

MomofTwo's Ratings:
Pros: Fairly low price compared to others, claims to offer home studies in all 50 states. Ah but does this agency do accurate home studies according to the state and federal guidelines?

Cons: Agency botched my approved home study with inaccurate information. Reports falsehoods then doesn't have any back up supporting evidence to the lies/inaccuracies. Contracted Social worker lied that she was a LCSW, in fact was a 26 year old just out of college with a "Associate Social Worker" title. Didn't follow guidelines for home study submittal, then re opened home study based on untruthfulness. Executive Director/Owner took over file (is not a social worker) but rather possesses a law degree. then claims we were not cooperative or candid, but NEVER GIVES specifics to her claims. Has past Wrongful Adoption lawsuits, check out Reynoso vs. Across the World Adoptions in Contra Costa Court: Fraud, misrepresentation, malpractice, etc., Sued her previous employer IAC-Independent Adoption Center, then opened Across the World in the next building. Conducts several same-sex home studies, check out "karen and Judy's baby online". Never discloses or meets with clients, very inpersonal and anti-social. Never has adopted, single woman who spends a lot of time in SF. Assistant Executive director is the only long lasting employee, she doesn't possess a Social Worker degree either and we are sure she has no education pass high school. Contracted social workers come and go faster than most people change their underwear. Very bad people who are unfair, disorganized, unprofessional, unethical. Check out BBB at one time had 3 complaints. Will now disclose past disrupts and wrongful cases. This agency is full of flakes, they offered to refund our home study if we would sign a waiver of liability. Can you imagine that? they thought it was all about money $$$$. Oh, speaking of money, they made $1.2 million in 2006 according to guidestar.com where their IRS is filed. It is a business, nothing more, they don't give a shit about accuracy and a child finding their home. Business is down Ms. Siegel? You have your lying self to blame.

Reviews: We do not recommend this agency. Several people have been hurt by them. Some very sad stories. Executive Director is cold hearted.
