Cons: Our experience with Small World Adoption Foundation was horrendous. After paying $11,500 in initial fees, their lack of communication and refusal to return phone calls led us to believe the whole thing was a scam. They finally referred two Russian siblings to us whom they portrayed as being perfectly healthy. Only after traveling to Russia did we find out that both had serious life long non-correctible health issues such as severe fetal alcohol syndrome, epilepsy/convulsive disorder, cerebral palsy, and hepatitis C. After spending $5700 on that trip we realized that we could not accept two children with such severe disabilities. It was heart-breaking. Another issue that continued throughout the process was the extortion of fees required to be paid in cash to SWAF employees in Russia for services that were specifically listed as included in the $14,000 additional “Foreign County Fees” that we had already paid. Our contract stated that transportation, translation, and ALL services necessary for the completion of the adoption in our child’s city of adoption were included, yet their employees demanded hundreds of dollars for these services. The demands for cash escalated the closer we got to the finalization of the adoption of the child we later accepted. Complaints have been filed with The MO dept of Regulation and Licensing, MO Attorney General and MO Secretary of State with the goal of preventing this from happening to other couples.
Reviews: It is in your best interest to use a different agency.
